This Sunday, we will gather for a concert in memory of Gina McKinney, Union’s beloved pianist, at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary. As we remember Gina and celebrate the gifts of music she shared with us, I want us to take some time this week to reflect on what we can learn from her life.
Gina not only made music with her hands. She made music with her life. She showed us a genuine and quiet way of serving the Lord, blessing others, and bringing beauty and joy to both people and animals. But especially through her music, she reminded us that our gifts are not merely for ourselves. They are opportunities to worship God and bless the people he has placed around us. I have no doubt that Gina is still making music to the Lord with her eternal life in her heavenly home right now.
Psalm 150:6 says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”
What a beautiful reminder that we all have a reason to praise the Lord, and every day God gives us is another opportunity to make music with our lives.
We may not all have Gina’s musical gifts, but each one of us has something we can offer to the Lord. Our work, our words, our relationships, our kindness, our time, our service, and our talents can all become an offering of worship to God.
A good question for us this week is “What kind of song is my life singing to the Lord?”
Can people hear praise in the way I love?
Can they hear praise in the way I serve?
Can they see Christ in the way I treat others?
Can my everyday life point people toward the goodness and faithfulness of God?
As we honor Gina this Sunday, may we remember more than the beautiful music she played. May we remember Gina’s example of love. May her memory encourage each of us to use whatever God has placed in our hands, our hearts, and our lives to bring him glory and point others to his love.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
May our lives become a song of praise, and may the Lord be glorified through every note.
Jesus loves you, Union Family, and I do too!
