Signs of new life are beginning to blossom all around us. Trees that were once bare are now dotted with tiny buds. Flowers push their way through the soil. Birds sing earlier in the morning, and the air carries the scent of a world waking up again. Spring arrives with a colorful beauty that delights our eyes, even if it also disturbs our sinuses.
Spring rarely comes in a perfectly balanced way. Some days are warm and bright, and we love being outdoors. Other days are cool and rainy, and we just want to take a nap as it rains. Spring has a way of reminding us that growth isn’t always neat or comfortable. It brings beauty, bright flowers, fresh leaves, and longer days, but it also brings pollen, rain, and sudden shifts in the weather that catch us by surprise.
In many ways, our spiritual lives are similar to the season of spring. When God starts doing something new in us, it sometimes comes with changes that feel exciting and hopeful. Other times, it stretches us in ways we didn’t expect. We may feel moments of clarity and joy, but also moments of uncertainty as we adjust to what God is shaping in us. Still, all of it, both the beauty and the stretching, are signs that God is gently at work, bringing new life where we may not have expected it.
Just as the earth must thaw and soften before seeds can sprout, our hearts sometimes must go through seasons of change before new life can grow. What feels uncomfortable at first may be the very thing God is using to awaken something beautiful within us.
Scripture reminds us: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
God is always in the business of bringing new life, new hope, new strength, and new beginnings.
So as we watch the world around us come alive again, let it remind us that God is also at work within us. May we embrace both the beauty and the adjustments that come with growth, trusting that the God who renews the earth each spring is also renewing our hearts day by day.
Jesus loves you, Union Family, and I do too!
