Have you ever worked on a puzzle and found yourself searching for one little piece to complete the final picture?
The church is a little like that. God gathers people with different ages, personalities, abilities, experiences, and gifts, then fits us together into something beautiful. Each person, each gift, each piece of the puzzle matters in the Family of God! Some teach. Some sing. Some prepare meals, visit the sick, greet newcomers, pray faithfully, care for children, serve behind the scenes, or simply offer a listening ear at the right moment. No one gift is exactly like another, and no piece is unnecessary. We need each other to make Union’s ministry a beautiful picture of God’s love in the world.
Paul writes, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). We are not called to all do the exact same things in the Body of Christ. Each of us is called to bring the unique gifts (pieces) that God has given us and trust that God is creating a larger picture through us together.
At times, we may wonder whether our small act of service really matters. I want to encourage us that all service offered to Christ is useful for building up the body and sharing God’s love in the world. Kind words, faithful prayers, hands and hearts extended in welcome, or simply the willingness to show up and help out can become the very piece someone else needs to see God’s love more clearly.
As we serve together, may we remember that our life together becomes stronger, more vibrant, and more beautiful when each of us offers our own unique piece to the Lord, trusting that in his way and his time, he will continue rendering a beautiful picture of his love in the world through us together!
