The Prayerful Pause - August 19

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Change is one of the few things in life we can always expect. Children grow up and leave home. Familiar routines give way to new seasons. Our health changes, relationships change, churches change, and sometimes even our carefully made plans change overnight.

Some changes are exciting. Others leave us unsettled, grieving what used to be, or wondering what comes next. Change can be difficult because it asks us to release what is familiar and step into something we cannot yet see.

Scripture teaches us that even though our circumstances change, God never changes. God’s love remains steadfast. God’s promises remain trustworthy. Indeed, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

God often meets us in seasons of change and uses them to deepen our faith. Change reminds us that our security was never meant to rest in routines, plans, possessions, or even other people. Our security rests in the God who walks with us through every season.

Perhaps right now you are facing a change you did not choose. You may be grieving the loss of what once was. Permit yourself to grieve, but do not mistake change for abandonment. God has not left you. The God who was faithful in the season behind you is already present in the season ahead.

God declares through Isaiah, “See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:19). Friends, all too often we focus so much on what is ending that we miss what God is beginning. The new thing may not be clear yet, but faith trusts that God is still working.

Union Family, whatever is changing in our lives today, we can hold tightly to God’s promises that never change: God loves you, Christ walks beside you, and the Holy Spirit will guide you. You may not know what the next chapter holds, but you can trust the One who is already there.

Jesus loves you, Union Family, and I do too!
